FEED

(2001-2015)

FEED was commissioned by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) for its landmark exhibition 010101: Art in Technological Times, in 2001. A play on the line and bar charts common in the financial industry (my day job at the time: programming market reporting systems), FEED consumed the internet's text and pixels and output a chaos of frantically drawn line and scatter charts. The structure and meaning of the internet become anti-information, an automatic action painting that exists for a purely aesthetic purpose.

Written in Java, FEED stopped working in browsers around 2015 when Java applet support officially ended. These are screenshots taken from FEED while it lived. For more detail about how and why it worked, see the original about page: About FEED
